Reflection on the movie We Are Marshall Research Paper
Reflection on the movie We Are Marshall - Research Paper Example Reflection on the movie "We Are Marshall" I consider this movie as an apt tribute to the victims of the plane crash because the remaining members of the Thundering Herd football team are not ready to give up. Besides, the movie is symbolic of the relationship between sports and willpower to withstand critical circumstances in human life. The film and the history of sports and games in America The director makes use of a historical incident in his film to portray the after effect of the same. But the director does not try to unearth the background of the tragic incident. Instead, he utilizes the incident as the background of his film. One can see that injury is usual in sports and games. But destruction of a whole team due to a plane crash is unimaginable. Within this context, the McG is aware of his role as film director. He never tries to unveil the background of the tragic incident. But he totally ignores the background and concentrates his attention on the after effect of the plane crash. If the director tries to concentr ate on the background of the incident, the output will be a historical anecdote. Here, a film direct cannot use his or her individual freedom. If the director decides to make use of an incident as a theme, he or she can utilize individual freedom. In my opinion, the director did not get distracted by the historical importance of the incident. This helps the film to go beyond a historical anecdote with limited scope. So, one can see that a historical event is the filmââ¬â¢s theme but the same is used as a foundation to portray the after effects or the following events. ... Tribute to the victims of plane crash The film is based upon a real incident which happened in the year 1970 in America. Baker Publishing Group (2009) stated that, ââ¬Å"In the sports movie We Are Marshall, nearly the entire Marshall University football team dies in a plane crashâ⬠(p. 411). The team members and the officials of the Thundering Herd football team became victims to the Southern Airways Flight 932 crash. The travel by flight was a rare event for the Thundering Herd football team because they usually made use of other transportation facilities. The Marshall University never suspected a tragic end to their players. One can see that the future dreams of number of families became futile due to the plane crash. But the University authorities were not ready to forget the victims and their family members. The memorials erected at the University campus and Spring Hill Cemetery is symbolic of the homage to the victims of the plane crash. On the other side, the directorâ⠬â¢s attempt to inculcate the plane crash and its after effects in his film can be considered as an apt visual tribute for the victims. But the director never tries to consider his film as investigation on the back ground of the plane crash. Instead, he tries to attract the attention of the viewers towards the after effects of the tragedy. I consider the directorââ¬â¢s effort is important because it helps the viewers to realize that how to show tribute to the victims of manmade or natural disasters. Sports and games and willpower I consider that oneââ¬â¢s achievement in the field of sports is interconnected with oneââ¬â¢s willpower to withstand challenges in life. At the same time, failure to achieve success in a sports event helps human beings to realize that the

Juvenile Gangs Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Juvenile Gangs - Research Paper Example Being raised in an economically depressed neighborhood can understandably lead youth persons to think that their lives are unimportant and thus want for a sense of identity. The social construction gangs offer provides juveniles with a sense of belonging, a particularly significant need for developing youths. In many neighborhoods, adolescents are actively recruited or are intimidated into becoming gang members and seemingly have little choice. ââ¬Å"A few [teens] are virtually born into gangs as a result of neighborhood traditions and their parentsââ¬â¢ earlier and perhaps continuing gang participation or involvement in criminal activityâ⬠(Moore, 1978). The gangs offer disenfranchised kids, who are undergoing feelings of isolation, a connection to a family-like atmosphere. Some of these youths are wavering between what they consider as their adopted and native cultures but feel a connection to neither. There are many reasons that youths join and remain loyal to gangs, all of which are complex and possibly incomprehensible to the general public. This discussion will briefly explain why juveniles join gangs then discuss gangs themselves, their motivations, general make-up, characteristics, and trends concerning street gang activity. There are numerous early factors that can lead juveniles to become gang members in addition to what might be the most obvious, living in abusive households. Poverty is another of the more significant factors. According to research conducted by the Childrenââ¬â¢s Defense Fund, nearly one fifth of all youths live below the poverty line in American cities. ââ¬Å"Poor neighborhoods, especially ââ¬Ëinner-city war zonesââ¬â¢, generally have relatively high crime rates, unsatisfactory schools and unhealthy living conditions. They provide a child with few resources, negatively affect development and increase the chances a child will become violentâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Rosadoâ⬠, 2000, p. 15). Children who are subjected to t wo or more risk factors such as poverty and abuse, have a significantly higher risk factor of participating in criminal behavior and juvenile violence. Inner city ââ¬Ëbattle zonesââ¬â¢, which have grown significantly in many of the countryââ¬â¢s small to medium-sized towns in addition to the larger urban sections of major cities, are described as those areas in which most youths over 14 years old has attended the funeral of more than one friend, a very distinct definition, one that is difficult for most Americans to fully comprehend. (Garbarino, 1999, p. 40). Because youths living in disadvantaged neighborhoods are often ostracized from mainstream society due to their inability to afford similar material goods or the education that would afford them with the means to leave, many of these juveniles grow up under an umbrella of bitterness, anger and open contempt of the societal rules and government laws of the same society that rejected them. This circumstance makes it easie r for them to rationalize their own deviant behaviors because they are merely doing what they believe necessary so as to give themselves a chance at something beyond their present life condition, a chances they not offered elsewhere. Their perception of rejection by the society at large also instills an attitude of despair and hopelessness among youths who are already suffering from other unfavorable conditions, reinforcing the idea that life will likely always be this painful, empty
International Entrepreneurship Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
International Entrepreneurship - Essay Example Behavioral pattern of the suppliers and the clients and concentration in the supply makes entrepreneurs more competitive in the global market. In the market where the customers are diverse, a different approach to the market may be of great benefit to entrepreneur in a new market (Keillor 2011). The trends of innovating products and services in a particular environment have been used by multinational companies in their new products. Taking for instance the travel business in the United States, the business involves serving both the natives and the international visitors. Globalization and liberalization of economies have allowed companies to invent new ideas suitable for the developing markets. Globalization has pressurized companies to continue innovating new ideas of conducting businesses. Though much innovation has been witnessed in the global market, entrepreneurs have found it harder to penetrate the market to ever changing business environment and competition (Griffin 2005). There is more opportunity for growth due to innovation and completion in the global market. Entrepreneurs in the global markets seem to prefer working centrally and doing business from a central position. However Companies benefit international market therefore centralization of business no longer applies in the global markets (Keillor 2011). The trend of business innovation is moving towards decentralization of markets. Entrepreneurs are considering a more involving business venture where the customers, suppliers and other stakeholders are closely involved in the product and services development. Such approach proves more beneficial in the globalised market just like the trend in expansion of markets. The global market has been a major target for entrepreneurs however more innovation is required to maintain the local market. The idea used in the global market is also applicable in the local market (Keillor 2011). Though the product innovation is crucial in entrepreneurship, the process innovation plays a central role. It is important in adapting to various business environments such as fixing of costs. Process innovation can be used by the businesses which are planning to have decentralized management. Basically each market will be managed according to the requirements and the policies guarding the market. 2. Internation al Trade Barriers Doing business in the international market faces challenges such as quotas, tariffs and non tariffs. Non traffic barriers are usually imposed by governments basically to restrict the quality imports. Such barriers restrict availability of products thus complicating the prices in the market. The result is high prices. A traffic barrier such as taxes, custom duties decreases the volumes of imports thus increasing the prices of products, thus the local market is favored.

The represesentation of disability and illness in Victorian England Essay
The represesentation of disability and illness in Victorian England novels - Essay Example r themselves in all this plentitude and opportunity, those who were somehow stricken with illness or disability were determined to be of somehow lower or disdainful quality. This was largely because people tended to judge others based upon their material acquisitions in these quickly changing times. Wealth was taken to be an accurate measure of the personââ¬â¢s character while illness or disability was seen to be a reflection of a diseased soul. These attitudes in society were explored in books written in the time. As will be discovered in this paper, novels emerged during this time period as societyââ¬â¢s most accurate means of reflecting on the social ills of the day and novels such as those written by Charles Dickens or George Elliot repeatedly demonstrated that the ill or disabled Victorian was somehow held to be of lower quality or worth than whole-bodied individuals. During the Victorian period, the process of psychoanalysis had not yet been published, much less widely discussed and applied to social structures. The principle means of reflecting issues common to the contemporary society was through the explorations provided in the fiction produced during the period. Borislav Knezevic says of Dickens and his contemporaries: ââ¬Å"Professional novelists became not only providers of relatively lucrative cultural products, but also voices of great social authority, and representatives of that middle-class wisdom and success. [â⬠¦] The novel became a locus of middle-class symbolic powerâ⬠(Knezevic, 2003: 4). In the Victorian era, the novel was as much about information as about entertainment, as Salman Rushdie observes in his entry on The Nation: ââ¬Å"The word ââ¬Ënovelââ¬â¢ derives from the Latin word for new; in French, nouvelles are both stories and news reports. A hundred years ago, people read novels, among other things, for i nformation. From Dickensââ¬â¢s Nicholas Nickleby, British readers got shocking information about poor schools like Dotheboys Hall, and

Personal Encounters with Chinese Painting Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Personal Encounters with Chinese Painting - Essay Example Experience of doing Chinese painting is enjoyable especially when applying fine brushwork and it really demands unique understanding of Chinese traditional culture for an excellent application of materials. Doing Chinese painting is indeed very interesting and it concentrates much on the utilization of different materials. I found it unique at the way different materials used determined the style of the painting even if the materials such as mountains and waters have similar delineation and enriched colors. I further realized that even the simplest brush and ink can play a great role in revealing everything although it may mean that a stereotyped routine is not followed. I experienced diverse feeling that come out of every Chinese painting and it is was indeed not easy to turn a blind eye on the artworks. Doing Chinese painting provokes emotions and sentiments because of the materials used that incorporates mental issue more than just the physical appearance of the painting. Doing Ch inese painting equips one with diverse creative methods because of the Chinese rich cultural perspective that drives the painting as well as the availability of room for flexibility purposes. Marketing Program Failures Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Marketing Program Failures - Essay Example Marketing entails the link between economic response patterns and societyââ¬â¢s material requirements. In fact, content marketing main aim is to attract customers and retain by consistently curating valuable and relevant content with an intention of changing consumer behavior. This, therefore, means that for any marketing program to succeed, the material requirements must always be appealing. However, if the marketing program has a poor content, then the possibility of the program to fail remains high. A marketing program does not have to be valuable for it to be considered perfect to the audience (HuÃËndgen, 2011). The marketer does not have to overspend in order to achieve quality marketing. Simple programs also sell to the audience. In fact, it needs to be better that the other competing marketing programs. The standards of the marketing program should always be higher. Poor program content does not attract consumers but instead, it creates noise or misleads them, which makes it likely to fail. Poor program content can also be reflected in the grammar of the text. Incorrect grammar in the program sends wrong signals about the program. Therefore, it is always important to proofread and check the spellings of the content before posting. First impressions always send a powerful message to the audience, and they always last a longtime. Being positive in the content will, therefore, sell the company. The content must be done in such a way that it calls the reader into action. It should always tell the reader what they want to hear after reading the program. Many marketing programs simply fail because their recipients never know what to do. Marketers must always close their programs with phrases that give their audience a direction to where they are found. It is quite evident that even some of the best marketing programs are not appreciated

Fun Loving Girl Essay Example for Free
Fun Loving Girl Essay I have a grown daughter that is on her own with a very special little girl that has stolen my heart. They are most important in my life and always will be. Family is very important to me and I want to be with someone who also values family. This fun loving girl is ready to start taking care of her social life. I keep myself busy as a foster parent and sometimes forget that I need to get out and have some fun. I am a small town country girl who just likes to keep things simple. I work at a hunting lodge so stay very busy during the season. I love what I do and donââ¬â¢t consider it a job. Iââ¬â¢ve grown up around guns and like to shoot at the range. Never been out hunting, but would like to see what it is all aboutâ⬠¦.. test the ââ¬Ëif it flies, it diesââ¬â¢ theory. I shot clays for the first time last fall and really enjoyed it, so looking forward to doing that again. Love to go fishing (and yes, I can bait my own hook), just kicking back and taking it easy, spending time around the fire with friends having a few drinks and lots of laughs. Iââ¬â¢d rather look at the stars and kiss in the rain than go to the mall. I like NASCAR and hope to get to a race someday. I think it would be awesome to take a car for a spin around the track too. Demo derbies, stock-car races, dirt trackâ⬠¦. love the atmosphere. I havenââ¬â¢t been on the back of a bike in a very long time and have always wanted to learn to ride myself, so if you are into that, I am not opposed to having the wind in my hair. I enjoy rock from the 70ââ¬â¢s, 80ââ¬â¢s and 90ââ¬â¢s and country. Never had much opportunity to learn how to two step but would like to learn. I like to go to out of the way places to look at the history, the old buildings and structures and remnants of the past that have been left behind. Antique stores and such are fun to explore and I like going to the local country auctions. I can always find something from the past that catches my eye. Im looking for someone to enjoy life with. Start out slow but have no limits to where it may go. I am a very affectionate girl who loves holding hands in public and giving hugs and kisses because that is how I like to show you that I care and I am really into you! I dont have time to play gamesâ⬠¦.. unless, of course, they are mutually agreed upon. I am adventurous and passionate, so intimacy and romance is a must. You should know that I give like I want to get back and am looking for that special guy that does the same thing. You must have a great sense of humor! I love to laugh and can find humor in just about anything. I believe you have to laugh at yourself before you can laugh at someone else. And I laugh at myself every day! Laughter is a great healer and I try to surround myself with people who laugh at the smallest most ridiculous thing, and can also create their own humor. I am looking for someone to build a relationship with, that special friend to stand by my side through it allâ⬠¦the good and the bad. I want someone who also tries to keep a positive attitude in all things. I am determined to be happy, regardless of what life throws at me. I have learned through experience that the greatest part of my happiness will depend on my disposition, not my circumstances. I choose to be happy. I want someone to enjoy life with. I dont need someone to change me or someone to change for me. I am who I am, Im not perfect but I work through my imperfection to be a better person. Life is not certain so I live life with no regrets, I am who I am because of my life and dont live in the past. I look forward to each new day and the adventure it brings. So if there is someone out there who is up to the task, I am ready to have fun. Here is our chance to maybe finding that spark for more. I am looking forward to meeting new people, forming lasting friendships, exploring life and the possibility of ultimately finding my soul mate. If you get what Iââ¬â¢ve said here, then hit me up and we can get to know each other.
